Based on the Breitling Superocean diver’s watch which dates from 1957, this watch with a retro and modern appearance is available in a stainless steel case measuring 42 mm in diameter and 9.9 mm thick. Two cases are offered by Breitling, one in two-tone stainless steel with an 18-carat gold bezel and hands and another in stainless steel, more classic.
A LIMITED EDITION SUPEROCEAN HERITAGE
Breitling watches from the new Superocean Heritage 57 collection are available with a black or blue dial. But there is also an in-store edition limited to 250 pieces with a black dial punctuated with rainbow-colored indexes and hands, an extravagant but truly superb model.
We find the emblematic concave and bidirectional stainless steel bezel with a black or blue ceramic insert too. It is also in this bezel that everything comes into play, from a design point of view, watch bezels are generally not concave. Personally, this doesn’t bother me in any way and I love this shape. This rugged-looking dive watch remains both simple and fun when seen in its multicolor version.
A large number of brands release reissues of watches but reproduce them precisely. Here Breitling has managed to combine a retro design and style with much more modern mechanics and materials. This is exactly what we find on the bezel. The concave design of the bezel is a vintage shape, but it is made of ceramic, making it sturdy and scratch-resistant.
I have always been a very big believer in displaying the date on a watch. But I must admit that on this Breitling Superocean Heritage 57 model the total absence of a date window is one of the choices that I appreciate the most on this dive watch. Both robust but simple and symmetrical.
We find an airy dial with a simple graduation and very distinctive indexes at 3 o’clock, 6 o’clock, 9 o’clock and 12 o’clock. A domed sapphire crystal protects the dial. This Superocean is powered by a Breitling caliber 10 which is a modified version of the ETA caliber 2892. The watches come on brown or black leather straps or the iconic mesh bracelet of the Superocean. If this does not suit you, you can also opt for NATO straps in different colors such as khaki, blue or even orange.
Nowadays, diving watches, bezels and dials have become quite homogeneous and look very similar. Breitling has offered a unique Superocean Heritage 57 in order to stand out a little in this ocean that is the world of watchmaking.
